Londonvasion with the phpBB Doctor
by Douglas Bell | Posted in Conferences/Sessions, Live Coverage, Online Media from Londonvasion 1 Comment »phpBB Moderator Team member Dave Rathbun (drathbun) has been putting together some very detailed summaries of the Londonvasion sessions up on his blog. This includes a very nice summary of what was presented as some of the exciting new features coming up in phpBB 3.2, which should be interesting to a lot of people. Go check his blog out for some more great Londonvasion coverage!
Finding Londonvasion on the Web 2.0
by Douglas Bell | Posted in Live Coverage, Online Media from Londonvasion No Comments »Londonvasion Central may be a little low on contributors, but that doesn’t mean that the rest of the Web 2.0 can’t help us out! Here’s some quick links to find other people’s own Londonvasion coverage on the internets.
If you’re tweeting about Londonvasion on Twitter, be sure to use the hash tag #londonvasion when tweeting. You can find all tweets about Londonvasion to see what people are doing, particularly including our own Londonvasion Central contributor, Barry Carlyon.
Lots of other people are blogging on their own about Londonvasion; find them on Google Blog Search (which seems to be having better results than Technorati)!
In addition to the Londonvasion Discussion topic and the Londonvasion Updates topic including pictures from Londonvasion, those of you taking pictures and oploading them on Flickr, please use the tag londonvasion on your photos! You can find Londonvasion Photos on Flickr, and there will likely be many more appearing on there soon!
Londonvasion Live Updates Topic
by Douglas Bell | Posted in Live Coverage, Photos No Comments »Now that I’m awake and able to follow Londonvasion from my home base in San Francisco, we can get some more updates together, such as pointing out that there is a Londonvasion Live Updates topic where you can see the latest photos coming out of Londonvasion, chiefly being posted by David Lewis (Highway of Life) and Adam Reyher (AdamR).
Human Spam
by Barry Carlyon | Posted in Conferences/Sessions, Live Coverage No Comments »So we are sat in Londonvasion, having just had lunch learning more about Spam and how to fight it.
The most important thing, about spam, that I will be taking away, is without Human Moderators the entire fight fails….
HERE!
by Barry Carlyon | Posted in Conferences/Sessions, Live Coverage 5 Comments »So Londonvasion is here, and running.
Um ok, so its Not, starting at 10 instead, surprisingly few poeple are here so far.
Been nice to put faces to names and meet some team members.
Will report later…..
(acydburn is sat in front of me, woo)
A Spacecraft? Or BertieZilla 3.0?
by Douglas Bell | Posted in Live Coverage, Pre-Londonvasion Events No Comments »An article on Gizmodo depicts some kind of crash landing that happened at Potter’s Field in London. Who knows what it is: some say it’s a crashed spacecraft, others say it’s a stunt for an automobile advertisement, but we all know what it really is. It’s the prequel to the beginning of the Londonvasion, which is only hours away as I type.

Thanks to iWisdom on phpBB.com for pointing this out.
Final Updates from Londonvasion
by Douglas Bell | Posted in Londonvasion News No Comments »Adam Reyher (AdamR) posted an update providing some final details regarding where in the hotel Londonvasion will be taking place at, how to find it, etc. Also, he said that the schedule will be relaxed somewhat, so although you will be seeing the Londonvasion schedule being displayed here on Londonvasion Central during the Londonvasion conference, do note that it is flexible and completely subject to change.
Also, the internet at the hotel is pretty bad, so the Q&A session will NOT be streamed live as previously advertised since the connection will not be fast enough to support it.
Update: David has informed me that the hotel is promising a faster 54 mbps connection during Londonvasion, so the live episode is back on!
Londinium
by Barry Carlyon | Posted in Live Coverage, Travelers' Tips No Comments »Unlike the phpBB team, I have been (un)lucky enough to be in London on my own today, whilst my host was working, did mean I got to see the Insides of the BBC World Service (tres Amazing).
So I ended up walking from Bush House, up to Buckinham Palace, then the South Bank of the Thames, to Tower Bridge, up past St. Pauls, to the Millenium Bridge and then the Afternoon was spent in Tate Modern “expanding ones’ horizons” pictures will be available…..later
So now time for tea, round to my hosts friends, and then the conference tomorrow.
Check out my twitterings: http://twitter.com/barrycarlyon/ and LondonVasion tagged tweets @ http://www.twitstat.com/cgi-bin/view.pl?search=londonvasion
More tomorrow ![]()
More Photos from the Team Members
by Douglas Bell | Posted in Live Coverage, Photos, Pre-Londonvasion Events No Comments »The team members have been having more meetings today, and despite the fact that they’re dealing with some really, really slow internet, they’ve been somehow managing to keep uploading pictures. The latest set lets you see some more of the various team members–interesting when you’re seeing their real faces instead of their avatars, eh?
The new photos start here and continue on throughout the topic. Most of the credit for the photos goes to David Lewis (Highway of Life) and Adam Reyher (AdamR).
Presenter Spotlight: Francis Lewis (Handyman`)
by Douglas Bell | Posted in Presenter Spotlight No Comments »Francis Lewis (known on phpBB.com as Handyman`) is a member of the MOD Team from Spokane, Washington, USA. He has been on the MOD Team since November 2007, and chiefly volunteers his time as a phpBB3 MOD validator.
Francis co-founded the Star Trek Guide forums in May 2006 using CVS snapshots of phpBB3 (KIDS: Don’t Try This At Home!), however, the site quickly shifted over to a community focused on phpBB3 discussion, support, and MODding, adopting the surname “phpBB Academy.” His work on Star Trek Guide during the 11-month beta cycle and nine-month RC cycle for phpBB3, and his work on some of the first phpBB3 MODs gave Francis a lot of experience with the phpBB3 codebase and was a major factor in his invitation to join the MOD team later on (along with the fact that his brother, David, and numerous members of the STG community had been lobbying for him to become a member of the MOD team).
At Londonvasion, Francis will give a 45 minute presentation on how to effectively build and manage a community, beginning at 15:15.
